Welcome to LiTAC

LiTAC is a non-profit educational resource for specialists in anaesthesia and critical care involved in the management of liver transplant patients. The site provides updates on publications in this field, a forum for commentary, access to relevant national reports and guidelines and information on meetings and training opportunities worldwide. It is administered by clinicians affiliated with the Liver Intensive Care Group of Europe (LICAGE) and the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS). Content is in English but we welcome submissions from non-English speakers and will edit or translate these whenever possible.

What's new - June 25th 2008

  • The ILTS / ELITA / LICAGE Joint Congress on Liver Transplantation will be held in Paris, 9-12 July 2008

The program for this state-of-the-art multidisciplinary meeting includes a strong Anesthesia/Critical Care component:

    • Controversies in Perioperative Care, with updates on coagulation, volume versus pressor, combined versus sequential cardiac procedures and cardiovascular monitoring
    • Perioperative renal injury: mechanisms and management
    • Evaluation of perioperative risk: interactive case presentations
    • Acute liver failure, with updates on Liver support therapies, Management of the acute-on-chronic patient, and When is the patient too sick for transplant?
    • Cardiac complications after liver transplantation
    • Pediatric liver transplantation: the intensivist's view
    • Anesthesia/Critical Care scientific abstracts

  • The main social event at the Congress will be an evening buffet reception in the roof garden of the Musee d'Orsay, with exclusive access to the museum's world famous collections.

  • For best value, JOIN THE ILTS FIRST - this will make congress registration much cheaper AND includes a 12-month subscription to the journal LIVER TRANSPLANTATION. The total cost is less than registering for the meeting as a non-member. Go to www.ilts.org to register.

  • Vanderbilt University invites you to take this 15 – 30 minute survey and share this email with all of your anesthesia colleagues involved in liver transplantation. This survey aims to understand differences in practice within each institution in addition to those differences between institutions. Investigators from Vanderbilt University, in collaboration with the University of Colorado, Tufts University, University of California at San Francisco and the Liver Intensive Care Group of Europe (LiCAGE), have organized a consortium of Institutions that submit data on anesthesia practices and outcomes to a newly established databank located at Vanderbilt. The Liver Transplant Anesthesia Consortium (LTrAC) is a funded and IRB approved (Vanderbilt University) survey tool. The data will be used to build a multinational databank that is open to all participants. The de-identified data collected in this database may be used in future studies.  We continue to de-identify any data prior to publication or future research use in order to avoid recognition of individual institutions or other care providers.

  • Results from preliminary analysis of our first survey LTrAC Survey 101, will be presented at the upcoming 2008 Joint International Congress of ILTS, ELITA & LICAGE in Paris.
